Custom Residential Solar System
November 2020
While I was taking circuit analysis, I wanted to challenge myself and extend my knowledge. To apply my theoretical knowledge, I designed, created, and installed a custom 170 watt solar system in my home. Because I had no prior knowledge with solar system and little to no experience with circuits, the project was challenging. Because of this, the project was very rewarding. Through my professor, research, and books, I was able to successfully complete the project. My system consists of a highly efficient 20 A MPPT charge controller, two 12 V 35 AH AGM batteries, a 170 W Rich Solar solar panel, a 1200 W pure sine invertor, and several sensors, meters, and fuses. The wiring schematic is shown to the right. After install, I added a motion sensor and DC light for the garage as a practical application of the clean energy. A thorough overview of my project can be found on YouTube.
